Virgil van Dijk started in the Merseyside Derby between Everton against Liverpool at Goodison Park, Saturday (17/10/2020). However, the 29-year-old player only stayed on the field for 12 minutes.
Virgil van Dijk was forced to leave in the middle of the Everton vs Liverpool match. The Dutch defender reportedly suffered a serious injury and could be out for a long period.
Van Dijk was involved in an incident with Jordan Pickford when trying to grab the ball near the Everton goal. Pickford hit the Liverpool defender's leg, making him unable to continue the game and was replaced by Joe Gomez.
The withdrawal of Virgil van Dijk made Liverpool's back line quite difficult to face Everton's attack. The Reds also had to settle for a 2-2 draw, after goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were successfully equalized by Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Various reports in England claim Van Dijk suffered from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. He also threatened to not be able to strengthen Liverpool for seven to eight months.
Juergen Klopp as Liverpool manager has not confirmed the extent of Van Dijk's injury. The German tactician can only ensure that the player is in pain and is not in too good condition.
Said Klopp after the Merseyside Derby match, quoted from the official Liverpool website. I don't know how serious it is, I don't know. But it's not that great, Virgil played for us, I don't know how many games in a row. He played with pain, he was doing his best, but he couldn't go on. This is clearly not good, "he said of Virgil van Dijk's injury," said Klopp.
That is the information regarding Van Dijk being threatened with a long absence due to injury, hopefully it will be useful.
